How can I retrieve a deleted file I deleted in error?
Hello Gwelling,
Unfortunately, once a record has been deleted from the system, there is no way to retrieve that record back unless the database was backed up before the record was deleted. In that case, the only way to bring it back would be to restore to a backup of the database.
Good morning Drew,
I found a loophole and was able to recover the majority of the information I needed.
Just an FYI the information is in the Crib transfer data.
Hope this helps some else with quick fat fingers.
Thanks,
I have done the same- deleted a gage when I thought I was deleting a calibration history entry. I was not able to retrieve the data but was able to find enough in our folders from the last few years to make a new gage entry. I was very frustrated with myself. It would be great if deleted entries were put into a ātrash binā and deleted after a week or 30 days so you could retrieve it in a case like this.
This is actually a good suggestion. I hope the Gagetrak programmmers can see this.
My other suggestion would be⦠A deleted gage history log can be very helpful. Once you delete a gage, details of the gage deleted will be recorded on a logbook with details such as Gage ID, Model, custodian, serial number, last calibrated date and custodian at least. ![]()
What about an archive where records can be moved to clean up the active gage view but where data is not lost permanently? These records are all text so very light weight file sizes. Make it accessible by clicking the caliper in the upper left corner.
The biggest loss when I accidently deleted an entry was older gage calibration history data. I have been in my current position for less than 2 years. Some of the certs before me were not saved correctly- as in was on a desktop and linked to a location and then was deleted- or fileās names changed or moved or deleted. So I lost history on those calibrations; even if I didnāt have the actual documents, I had dates and vendor names. Now we have standards in place to avoid that from happening.
Thanks, everyone. This has turned into a really helpful discussion.
Iāve shared your experiences and suggestions with our product and development teams. The ideas around archiving gages, keeping a record of deleted gages, and recovering something that was deleted accidentally have definitely been heard.
There are several things we would need to consider in determining how a feature like this could work, so I canāt promise a change or timeline. However, the need youāve identifiedāand especially the potential loss of older calibration historyāis being taken seriously.
Please keep the ideas coming. This is exactly the kind of discussion we like to see in the forum.
