Most difficult to deal with during audit and what slows me down getting what is requested; old attachments/calibration documents that are linked incorrectly and cannot be opened. I will have to then search and try to find it in our folders.
The other is they (customer or auditor) ask me for a sample but do not have a specific gage ID for me. I would love to have a search option for a “FAMILY OF”. So, if I have gages made for a specific customer / product, I can pull up everything issued to that product regardless of where the gage is located or what type of gage it is, so I can see all on one screen.
I know exactly what you mean about those broken links. That can happen when files are moved or renamed, or when the folder structure on the network changes. Newer versions of GAGEtrak allow you to embed documents directly in the database, which can help prevent that problem going forward. Unfortunately, it won’t fix links that are already broken, but it may save you from having more of them later.
Your “Family Of” idea got me thinking, so I did a little digging. I checked your account, and since you have GAGEtrak Pro, you already have access to GAGEtrak Crib.
Here’s how you can try it:
Open GAGEtrak Crib.
Select Product from the Main Menu.
Create a new Product record for the product, customer product, assembly, or other grouping you want to use.
Open the Where Used tab.
Click the plus sign.
Select all the gages used to inspect that product and click OK.
Save the Product record.
The Where Used tab will then show those gages together, even if they are different types or located in different areas.
It isn’t called “Family Of,” but I think it may do what you’re looking for.
For audit issues for us it is out of tolerance analysis of a gage. I would prefer to keep it inside of Gagetrak. But unsure how to handle it. The other issue is that “where used” We are a job shop and issue at least 10,000 jobs per year with over 2,000 tools in house. I need a way of associating which tool is used on a job easily. We could have multiple tools used on 1 job. And a tool used on 100’s of different jobs.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, the option to embed the document has been very valuable. It was actually made a standard to do this in response to a CAR where we could not locate needed documents.
And thank you very much for the direction on the crib feature. I think that is going to work great. I took a quick look and that will be my new project to get this set up. It will be much easier as we get new gages and products in to get this established. This is something I have wanted since I have been in this position, and I am glad to find that the software has this option.
